The 1980 season was the 61st regular season of the League.

Off the field,  the league declined to approve the proposed move by Oakland to Los Angeles, the team along with the Coliseum sued the League for violating antitrust laws. A verdict in the trial would not be decided until before the 1982 season.

Meanwhile, on the field the season ended when the Oakland team defeated the Philadelphia squad.

The league featured several teams with legitimate chances for the title.  Every division saw teams battling for the Division Title in the final week of play.  The Wild Card spots in both conferences were decided by tie-breakers.  This is a fantastic season for a replay.
